Inthese network areas, packet-interleaved optical time-divisionmultiplexing with its finer and more dynamic bandwidth allocation isadvocated. .The book presents such an approach, known as photonic slot routing. Itillustrates how this approach may provide a cost-effective solution todeploying all-optical transport networks, using today‘s optical devicetechnology. To that end, the author combines DWDM-technology withfixed slot optical switching, and gives a comprehensive description ofthis approach in which slots are aligned across the wavelengths toform groups of data-flows that propagate as a whole inside thenetwork.
