PON1 Polymorphisms, of specific OP substrates. Other polymorphisms have been described in the 5’ and 3’ non-coding regions. Several of the 5’ polymorphisms may influence serum PON1 levels that in turn affect rates of substrate hydrolysis.

Protective Action of HDL-Associated PON1 Against LDL Oxidation,revents these events and the inverse relation between HDL and atherosclerotic events may in part be due to enzymes associated with HDL that destroy the biologically active lipids generated in LDL. The potential role of one of these enzymes, paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is discussed below.
