描述In this volume the policy of review by anonymous referees and minor correction by the editor has been continued, but perhaps should not be extended without an agreed policy statement by the Society. Our choice is minimal revision with rapid publication or proper review with some delay in publication. Longmuir v BRIEF HISTORY OF ISOTT The Society endured a long gestation period. During the 1960s its formation was discussed at a number of international meetings devoted to oxygen in biological systems. Prominent among a great number of such gatherings were those held at the Institute of Diseases of the Chest, London 1960; Bedford College, London 1963; Queen Elizabeth College, London 1963; and the Seventh Bad Oeynhausen Conference, 1967. At first, reservations were expressed about the desirability of forming a highly specialized society which might not achieve the "critical mass" necessary for its continued existence. Delivery and Use of Oxygen in the Hepatic Tissue Assessed by Organ-Reflectance Spectrophotometrypatic oxygen consumption. In this study, to clarify whether the balance between delivery and use of oxygen in the hepatic tissue is disturbed in chronic liver disease, we investigated hepatic hemodynamics in patients with chronic liver diseases using reflectance spectrophotometry.

Regional Cerebral Blood Flow in Normal Blood Circulated and Perfluorocarbon Transfused Ratsiminating problems encountered with right carotid entry, i.e., left vs right differences, and any trauma associated with the thoracotomy or cardiac puncture. Oxygen Diffusion Coefficient of Cell Membranes, 2.18 in lung cells, 2.64 x 10. cm./sec in myocytes. The add value was 12.2, 12.6 and 13.4A in respective organs at 30 C. A comparison between sizes of moving area of phospholipid molecules in membrane and in idial fluid state suggested that the actual DO. values in cell membranes may probably be ten times larger than the present values.

P NMR Evaluation of Hypoxic Stress in Brain of Animal Modelsery from hypoxia is often 30-fold delayed. Comprehensive monitoring of energy metabolism (PCr/P.), respiratory chain redox states, intracellular pH and lactate accumulation allow the calculation of integrated pH and lactate “insults” and thus offer new insights on the effects of hypoxia on brain oxidative metabolism.
