描述This study of feminism, equity and change in the academy is based on interviews with 40 feminist academics and students in Britain, Sweden and Greece. The research attempts to decode and disentangle gendered message systems and the matrix of power relations in the academy. It consists of feminist readings of the micro-processes of everyday practices. Change is interrogated in relation to feminist pedagogy, equity, organizational culture, policies and discourses of New Right reform, mass expansion and new managerialism.

Introduction: The Micropolitics of Academic Feminism, women students and staff about subtle and overt practices which leave them feeling undermined, confused and disempowered (Morley and Walsh, 1995, 1996). This is an account of the academy as perceived from the margins — the discursive location of ‘other’, examining how behaviours, structures and values create a sense of dominance in the academy.

Power, Pedagogy and Empowerment,nd feminist pedagogy and postmodernism. The chapter draws on interviews with feminist academics who were asked how they applied feminism to their pedagogy/teaching methodologies, and students who identified as feminists were asked for their views on styles of classroom interaction.

Feminist Students: Radicalism, Rights and Resistance,nowledge of feminist courses. Diversity is considered in relation to age, social class, sexuality, disability, ethnicity, with examples of how the academy has ‘othered’ or accommodated aspects of student identity forged in marginality, such as disability.
