Role of Iron in Anthracycline Action direct evidence has not been presented which links iron chelation with the ability of this agent to prevent cardiac toxicity, this would have to be considered the leading hypothesis. Prior to these studies, it had been shown that the presence of iron could play and important role in doxorubicin-induced lipid peroxidation.

A Trial of ICRF-187 to Selectively Protect Against Chronic Adriamycin Cardiac Toxicity: Rationale andule of administration have not substantially altered the antitumor activity. Further efforts in this area may yet bear fruit. However, at the present time the challenge to improve the therapeutic ratio must be met by reducing toxicity, particularly cardiac toxicity.
