Charge coupled devices at ESO — Performances and resultsoise performance under 2 electrons rms at a readout speed of 50 kilopixel per second per port. With automated equipment and routines, we are able to undertake a broad range of tests with minimal manual interaction involved. This paper reviews the current performance and results obtained with the CCDs in the lab and under telescope operations.

Mission accomplished — ESO’s optical detector systems come of agewere delivered. The rate of CCD system deliveries has peaked and the pace will slow over the next few years, but most of the new systems will be mosaics of CCDs, the largest being the 16Kxl6K Omegacam system. At the end of 2002, ESO will have a total of 27 CCD systems running on 24 instruments; altogether 75 CCDs that total 575 million pixels.

CCD plans for the Subaru TelescopeCCDs in a focal plane, which is not a trivial issue since the mechanical 3-D tolerance is usually very small. One of the instruments (Subaru Prime Focus Camera: Suprime-Cam) saw first light in January 1999 and we present the first test results on the CCDs at the telescope.
