,Phytochemistry — Its Role in the Future of Plant Biotechnology 1987,e as a biochemist of plant biotechnology. In view of these limitations, my perspective must be confined to that area of plant biotechnology that I try to keep up with, that based upon recombinant DNA technology.

Initial Interactions Between Plant Cells and , in Crown Gall Tumor Formation,, termed T-DNA, is found integrated into the nuclear DNA of cloned plant tumor tissue.. Expression of T-DNA genes alters the hormone balance of the plant cells,. resulting in the tumor phenotype. T-DNA gene products also direct the transformed plant cells to produce opines, unusual amino acids which are utilized by the Agrobacteria..

Studies on the 5-Enolpyruvylshikimate-3-Phosphate Synthase Genes of Higher Plants and Engineering o which must synthesize aromatic amino acids .. In plants the enzyme is primarily localized in the plastids which are the major sites of synthesis of aromatic compounds. EPSP synthase is not found in animals.

The Role of Plant Compounds in the Regulation of , Nodulation Genes, structure of plant cell wall.. Early during the invasion process, in advance of the invading infection thread, inner cortical cells are stimulated to divide by the bacteria.. It is apparent from this process that there is an ordered and specific exchange of biochemical signals between the plant and the invading bacteria.
