I arrived in the summer, after passing the “candidaatsexamen” at Groningen, and was immediately put to work by Professor Oosterhoff to estimate magnitudes of SV Centauri on plates taken with the Franklin-Adams telescope at Johannesburg.

The topics represented in current CO research focus on several areas whose foundations were originally motivated to a large extent by Professor Oort.

The Challenge of Jan Oort, a challenging way that I was trapped, even before I knew it, into helping him. Not that I minded; for I’m sure that my own career as a Science Administrator has been thriving on this, and similar, challenges.
