The Case Against Weak Selection,Social dilemmas are inherently competitive. Individuals interact repeatedly and acquire rewards. These rewards may benefit others or just the individual. Games by definition involve competition. It therefore understandable why social dilemmas can be formulated as games to study how and why cooperation levels vary in human populations.

We can observe and record a system’s response to different environmental conditions and make conclusions about its intrinsic properties and characteristics. The objective is to know as much as possible about the system so that we can reliably predict how it will behave in specific circumstances that have not been observed.
