描述.This book offers an inspiring and na?ve view on language and reasoning. It presents a new approach to ordinary reasoning that follows the author’s former work on fuzzy logic. Starting from a pragmatic scientific view on meaning as a quantity, and the common sense reasoning from a primitive notion of inference, which is shared by both laypeople and experts, the book shows how this can evolve, through the addition of more and more suppositions, into various formal and specialized modes of precise, imprecise, and approximate reasoning. The logos are intended here as a synonym for rationality, which is usually shown by the processes of questioning, guessing, telling, and computing. ..Written in a discursive style and without too many technicalities, the book presents a number of reflections on the study of reasoning, together with a new perspective on fuzzy logic and Zadeh’s “computing with words” grounded in both language and reasoning. Meaning as a Quantityonly considering meaning from its qualitative side is insufficient; it is the quantitative that facilitates the degrees up to which words actually mean something in a given context. Meaning should be somehow measured.

Thinking, Analogy, and Reasoninghistory of logic contains such an evolution from old philosophy to modern mathematical logic. Reasoning is deeply related to rationality, and at the end, the old Greek term . referred to both word and reason; we refer to conscious reasoning.

A (Na?ve) Symbolic Model of Ordinary Reasoning previous action, or foreseeing how to reach some wished goal, and the like. Hence, at the bottom of reasoning, and in whatever form it can be shown, abstraction, categorization, analogy, and meaning play pivotal roles.

Antonyms. Negation, and the Fuzzy Case word by, simultaneously and by polarity, learning the meaning of one of its opposite words, or antonyms. Antonyms are used in plain language, and usually they are clearly distinguished from negation; it is the case, for instance, of “empty” and “not full”, “short” and “not tall”, and so on.

Questions on Fuzzy Inference Schemesld in some of them. Only after knowing which can be such formal frameworks, can the corresponding scheme be freely used for conducting a formal reasoning within it; in a given fuzzy framework in which a scheme can be freely used, there may be other schemes that cannot.
