The Reduction of Surface Backscatter and Ambient Noise by Monomolecular Films on the Ocean Surface of a decrease in frequency of air entraining events occurring within the film covered area. It is hypothesized that the film’s indirect effect on bubble generation, rather than its direct attenuation of ocean-surface fine structure, is responsible for the . acoustic backscatter reductions observed with . ensonifying wavelength.

Measurements of High Frequency Reverberation in Shallow WaterAir-filled steel spheres were moored at the site as a distributed target for acoustic imaging experiments. Moreover, data have been analyzed to characterize boundary reverberation for two cases representative of the variability encountered during the experiment.

Frequency Response Measurements on Backscattering from a Shallow Sea Floor, Using a Parametric Sourctom backscattering coefficient at 1 kHz was -39 dB re 1 m. and increased with frequency to the power of 0.5. Statistical data in the form of probability distributions show a Rayleigh distribution for ensembles of peak acoustic amplitudes at each frequency studied.
