Nonlinear hyperbolic systems in one space dimension,y close. In fact, in the case of the .-system, we are able to prove that the Riemann problem is always solvable. We shall show in the next chapter that this is also true for the gas dynamics equations. These two basic chapters present the results with detailed proofs, which could be easily shortened for a reader already familiar with the subject.
