The Vitamin D Receptor (NR1I1), on the cellular machinery to absorb calcium in the gut, to re-absorb it in the kidneys and deposit it in the bones. Consequently, insufficiency of the VDR ligand 1α,25dihydroxyvitaminD. (1α25(OH).D.) in a child leads to the classic symptoms of rickets.

Fxr,itional functions of FXR are identified in enteroprotection, liver regeneration, cancer and aging. These exciting findings suggest that FXR has a broader role than previously thought, and also highlight potential opportunities for using FXR as a drug target for different diseases.
