描述The introduction of nuclear medicine into oncology dates back to the early 1 940s, when Lawrence reported on the tumor retention of 32P-phosphate, von Hevesy and von Euler soon afterwards published their fundamental work on the metabolism of phosphorus in sarcoma cells, and when almost at the same time Keston and his coworkers de- scribed their observation of the accumulation of radioactive iodine in metastases of a thyroid carcinoma. Since that time innumerable publi- cations have appeared in oncologic literature which deal with the application of nuclear medical methods in experimental cancer re- search and also in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors. The significance of some originally very successfully applied clinical methods naturally has changed over the years. For instance, scin- tigraphy became somewhat less important for the purely morpho- logic assessment of certain tumors after the introduction of transmis- sion computerized tomography and modem sonographic methods into clinical practice. NMR Tomography of Cancer: Technical Considerationsssess T. and T. relaxation times different from those of equivalent normal tissue. A direct classification of tumors according to these factors, however, has only partially been successful so far, due to MR’s lack of specificity.

Noncontact Eye Tumor Imaging with a Gamma Camerapulation of a potentially tumor-bearing eye [2]. Thus, an alternative technique of modern nuclear medicine would be welcome. The use of gamma-emitting labelled compounds affords a noncontact and atraumatic technique for the detection of intraocular tumors [3].

Clinical Aspects of Detection and Imaging of Tumors of Liver and Spleenheap and reveal very constant physical properties; phytate is sometimes advantageous when low spleen uptake is wanted. Generally, activity distribution after bolus injection should be analyzed by gamma camera and data processing for the separate evaluation of arterial and portal blood flow.

Development of Magnetic Resonance Contrast Media for Tumorsor example, a nonfunctioning kidney may appear normal on the MR image, but a urographic contrast agent can demonstrate the lack of excretory function. Contrast agents may further augment the imaging process if imaging time can be reduced through the use of time-efficient pulsing sequences without loss of diagnostic content.
