Modeling Speech Based on Harmonic Plus Noise Modelsy, the non-periodic part (or noise part) is obtained by subtracting in the time domain the harmonic part from the original speech signal. Three versions of HNM are discussed. The objective of the discussion is to determine which of these versions could be useful for prosodic modifications and synthesis of speech.

Cepstrum-Based Harmonics-to-Noise Ratio Measurement in Voiced Speech of a moving average filter. Based on this description, short-comings of two existing cepstral-based HNRs are illustrated and a new approach is introduced and shown to provide accurate HNR measurements for synthesised glottal and voiced speech waveforms.

Nonlinear Speech Processing: Overview and Possibilities in Speech Codingetc. Although the paper is devoted to ADPCM speech coding (scalar and vectorial schemes), this study offers a good chance to deal with nonlinear predictors, as a first step towards a more sophisticated applications. Thus, our main purpose is to state new possibilities for speech coding.

Text Independent Methods for Speech Segmentation, which is a central issue in today’s speech technology. Moreover, a novel parametric segmentation algorithm will be presented and performance will be evaluated by comparing its effectiveness against other text independent speech segmentation methods proposed in literature.

Perceptive, Non-linear Speech Processing and Spiking Neural Networksand processing in combination with biologically plausible neural network processors. We illustrate the potential of such non-linear processing of speech on a source separation system inspired by an Auditory Scene Analysis paradigm. We also discuss a potential application in speech recognition.
