Nonlinear Dynamics of DNA Chain,. The molecule was first identified in the 1860s by the Swiss chemist Johann Friedrich Miescher. He discovered a substance that had unexpected properties, different from those of the other proteins he had been familiar with. He did not know he had discovered the molecular basis of life, which he called nuclein.
