Measurements of Sound Velocities at High Temperatures by using Laser Generated Ultrasoundo overcome the problem.. In the method, a distorted optical beam from the rough surface is changed to a well collimated beam, thereby a conventional interferometer can be used retaining the sensitivity.

Sagnac Interferometer for Ultrasound Detection on Rough Surfaceserferences that may occur with long coherence sources. A random speckle modulation scheme has been incorporated to overcome the “speckle problem” that arises when the test object is rough. Examples of applications are also reported in this paper.

More recently lasers have been used to ablate arterial blockages. However successful treatment is dependent on adequate guidance in order to ensure both precise alignment and correct identification of diseased areas.

The work focuses on the laser/materials interaction that occurs during the generation of ultrasonic waves, and considers a number of methods by which laser ultrasonic systems can achieve greater sensitivity through control of the laser generation source.
