Marine Nitrogen and Climate Change,inorganic nitrogen to estuaries and oceans each year, with three-quarters of this now being from human sources such as fertiliser and sewage.. A further 140 million tonnes of nitrogen enters the marine environment through nitrogen fixation, and around 50 million tonnes is deposited directly from the atmosphere in rain, snow and dust.

Nitrogen and Geoengineering,l change in global climate forcing equivalent to removing more than one billion tonnes of carbon (1 Pg C) from the atmosphere. To put this one billion tonnes of carbon in context, it is equivalent to over 3.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide or about one-tenth of global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning each year.
