描述IAU Symposium No. 167 brought together researchers who use CCDsand arrays, designers and manufacturers of CCDs and Array Mosaics andthose who write the software to control these devices and to reducethe large amounts of data contained in each frame. .At the meeting such topics as plans for applying the new technology tothe new large telescopes that have been built recently and thoseplanned in the near future, new developments in infrared arrays,advances and concerns with the use of CCDs in photometry andspectroscopy and the creation of large mosaics in photometry andspectroscopy and the creation of large mosaics of chips which allowlarger areas of the sky to be covered in a single frame werediscussed. .There were sessions devoted to the following topics: New Developmentsin CCD Technology; New Developments in IR Detector Arrays; DirectImaging with CCDs and Other Arrays; Spectroscopy with CCDs and OtherArrays; and Large Field Imaging with Array Mosaics. Scientific resultsof studies made with this technology were covered in the postersessions. .CCD and Array Detectors have become the detectors of choice at all theworld‘s optical observatories. An Infrared Camera Based on a Large PtSi Arraycope at Sutherland. The array is very uniform and almost free of cosmetic defects. The camera, its electronics and the operational procedures that we use are described, together with the methods of data reduction. The limiting magnitudes that can be observed in the JHK broad bands are given.

CCD Photometry: Some Basic Concernse telescopes and at tasks complementing projects carried out at large telescopes. Associated problems of CCDs are discussed, together with unsuspected difficulties affecting millimagnitude accuracy mainly caused by pixel-size mismatch, cooling, data acquisition, non-linearity of response and improper standardization.
