Involvement of Catecholaminergic Neurones of the Hypothalamus in Blood Pressure Regulationease of the neurotransmitter. If the transmitter were indeed involved in the homeostasis of blood pressure, then changes in blood pressure would be expected to modify the rate of transmitter release in brain areas involved in cardiovascular control, thus counteracting the blood pressure change.

Dale concluded that “paralysis of the normally preponderant motor elements allows the emergence of a normally masked inhibitor effect”.

It is beyond the scope of this paper to review the .-adrenoceptor-mediated mechanism in detail. It will be described only as far as is necessary to permit comparison with the rather different subcellular processes that appear to result from myocardial α-adrenoceptor stimulation.
