The Microcirculation of Normal and Injured Tissue hypotension. A variety of mechanisms exist in the microcirculation to maintain constancy of capillary flow and pressure under such circumstances. Local regulation of blood flow must also be linked to the metabolic requirement of the tissue.

Transvascular Fluid Fluxes During Severe, Prolonged Canine Hemorrhagic or Endotoxin Hypotensionvated, naturally perfused canine forelimbs were inferred from changes in organ weight and total and segmental (large artery, small vessel, large vein) vascular resistances (1–4). Brachial venous outflow was used as an index of skeletal muscle blood flow and cephalic venous outflow was used as an index of skin blood flow.

The Effect of Persisting Hypovolemic Shock on Pancreatic Output of Insulin interrelated events ultimately result in loss of compensation for a persisting reduction in peripheral blood flow. The problem for investigators today is to determine to what extent metabolic and endocrine alterations are involved in the loss of tolerance or compensation for shock (6).
