Activity-Based Maintenance of Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis: Maintaining a Potential for Lifelong pool of recruitable cells must be maintained, rather than focusing on achieving acute peaks of proliferation, because these new cells can only build upon what is already present. Differential Intrinsic and Extrinsic Regulations of the Two Adult Neurogenic Regions,d SVZ. This review will compare and highlight recent advances in our understanding of differential regulations between neurogenesis in the SGZ and the SVZ.
