Data-driven Sound Interpretation: its Application to Voiced Soundsgenerated stimuli in which phase differences between the partíais alter only the amplitude modulation envelope. The results fit with a model in which cochlear nucleus neurons detect this amplitude modulation.

Edge Enhancement and Exploratory Projection Pursuitd the filter with the highest output kurtosis. We pursue this avenue further by using the developed neural network to find the filter with the highest output kurtosis when applied to a collection of natural images. The method does not appear to work but interesting lessons can be derived from our failure.

Neurobiological and neuropsychological evidence for contextual guidance and cooperative population codes is outlined. The possible relevance of these ideas to the concept of representation proper is discussed.
