The Presynaptic Neuron I: Release and Storage of Transmitter, the postsynaptic cell and the general properties of transmitter release, and the giant synapse in the stellate ganglion of the squid, which has been especially useful for studying the link between a neuronal action potential and the release (exocytosis) of transmitter from the presynaptic neuron.

Learning and Memory, individual animal success is strongly dependent on that animal’s ability to adapt to the environment and, in particular, to alter its behaviour in appropriate ways. This capacity to alter behaviour is a result of changes in the nervous system; these changes constitute learning and memory.
