Anthraquinones,and the growing family of pyranoanthraquinones or anthrapyrans which occur mainly as C-glycosides. Unfortunately there are still many erroneous structures in the literature; Brassard has drawn attention to some of these by synthesis but structural revision is usually precluded by lack of data.

Miscellaneous quinones,Included here are the rare group of thiopheno- and dithiophenobenzoquinones from archaebacteria, and the ansaquinone antibiotics elaborated mainly by . spp. The latter group contains benzoquinones and naphthoquinone units within a macrocyclic system; about a dozen new examples have been identified in the last decade.
