描述.Most natural and artificial systems transform information in a predictable or programmable way; such transformation can be interpreted as harnessing nature for computing. Recently we have witnessed a burst of research in unconventional computing, resulting in the development of experimental prototypes of natural computers, plasmodium computers, reaction-diffusion processors, and DNA computers as well as theoretical paradigms of natural computation such as cellular automata, artificial chemistry, evolutionary computing, and neural networks. The International Workshop on Natural Computing (IWNC) brings together computer scientists, biologists, mathematicians, electronic engineers, physicists, and others to critically assess present findings in the field, and to outline future developments in nature-inspired computing. This compilation of papers presented at the most recent workshop, held in Nagoya, Japan, makes a valuable contribution to the understanding of natural computing..

Models and Mechanisms for Artificial Morphogenesisll as opportunities, and in order to fulfill its promise, we need both formal and informal models for conceptualizing, designing, and reasoning about embodied computation. This paper presents a preliminary design for one such model especially oriented toward artificial morphogenesis.

Biologically–Inspired Network Architecture for Future Networksrk architecture. It is a biologically–inspired self–organizing network. Its robustness and adaptiveness attained by the bio–inspired approach is quite useful for satisfying the requirement of the future networks.

Properties of Threshold Coupled Chaotic Neuronal Mapsed. We also propose a scheme to obtain dynamical logic cell, using a threshold coupled chaotic neuronal drive–response systems. The study of threshold coupled chaotic dynamical systems suggest its potential application in computation and information processing.

Computing by Observing Changese configuration. Compared to previous implementations of the Computing by Observing paradigm, this decreases the computational power; but with relatively simple systems we still obtain the language class generated by matrix grammars.
