Mechanical Properties of Low-Dimensional Carbon StructuresAfter a review of the main concepts of the physics of elastic deformation of solids, in particular of elastodynamics of surfaces and multilayers, Brillouin scattering of laser light from both bulk and surface phonons is discussed and recent results on the mesoscopic mechanical properties of cluster-assembled carbon films are presented.
