The experimental i-v curves of these double-tunneling junctions show a Coulomb staircase where the step width varies from step to step. This is because the step width corresponds to the total energy difference between the ionized states and the neutral state of the molecule.

Nanotips and Transmission Low Energy Electron Diffractionween Fourier imaging, shadow imaging and in-line holography at sub-kilovolt electron energies is discussed, using a nanotip field emitter. The results of recent multiple electron scattering computations for the transmission of 100 –1000 volt electrons through thin gold films are summarised.

Electron Focusing: Computer simulations of atom-size tips are shown to explain the salient features of the electron emission properties observed experimentally. The computer simulation technique is also used to investigate solid-state electron-focusing devices.
