Bacterial Calcification,on sites and they become embedded in growing carbonate particles, but similar particles can also form in the absence of bacteria. The shape of particles larger than so pm is the same whether they were formed abiotically or induced by bacteria.

Calcification in Cyanobacteria,onmental factors such as the saturation state of the water with respect to calcium carbonate minerals and the concentration of dissolved CO. and phosphate may be reflected in the occurrence of fossil calcifying cyanobacteria.

Fungi and Sediments,They can also precipitate needle-fiber calcite, a common form of CaCO. found in soils and calcretes. Although their role has been neglected in sedimentary petrology, fungi are used in the ore industry for leaching metal and in land reclamation for dune fixation and recovering pollutants.
