描述In 1980 the Internal Emitters Committee of EULEP organised a symposium in Rotterdam on Bone and Bone Seeking Radionu cI ides: Their Physiology, Dosimetry and Effects. The speakers for this meeting, mostly from EULEP associ- ated laboratories, were chosen to review this field of scientific research mostly for the benefit of interested scientists who were not actively researching with bone- seeking radionuclides. This meeting was a success and its proceedings were subsequently published in the form of a book by the Commission of the European Communities, reflecting the great importance that both EULEP and the Radiologi- cal Protection Programme of the Commission of the European Communities attaches to the study of radionuclides that deposit in bone. The Metals in Bone symposium in Angers was intended to serve a different function from that of the meeting held in Rotterdam in that, while these proceed- ings will certainly be of interest to non-involved scientists, the meeting was intended to be of most benefit to those actively researching the metabolism and effects of bone-seeking metals. The Pattern of Calcium Deposition in Rat Bone as demonstrated by Calcein Labelinger with diffusion or ion exchange can vary this pattern (Pr8 3). There is also evidence to suggest that after contamination with bone seeking radionuclides the risk of osteosarcoma induction may be more likely in bones with a high turnover rate (Je78).

The Release of Transportable Plutonium from Macrophages: The Effects of Dietary Ironments have shown that the iron status of animals is a potential regulator of the rate of plutonium loss. (Pr 82) (Ha 84). The present experiments were designed to compare the loss of plutonium from macrophages at different sites in the body (experiment 1) and to investigate its dependence on iron status (experiment 2).

Long-Term Retention of Radium in Female Former Dial Workersn has been studied in both the short and the very long terms. This paper is a contribution to our knowledge of the long-term metabolism. It presents strong presumptive evidence for an effect of radiation on the late retention of radium-226 in man.
