Metabolism of Aromatic Amino Acids,substance readily from the blood. It is clear that this ready uptake is due to the functioning of transport mechanisms specific for amino acids. Related aromatic acids and amines are virtually excluded from entry into the brain.

Glutamate and Glutamine,rporation of carbon or nitrogen from a variety of precursors in these amino acids is fast and extensive, indicating a rapid turnover of these compounds. The conversion of glutamate to glutamine is thought to be important for the detoxification of ammonia in the brain.
