Channeling: A Marriage of Atomic Collision Physics and Materials Science,terials. Channeling, the phenomenon which leads to steering of a penetrating ion’s trajectory along low index crystal directions, is caused by correlated atomic collisions with the atoms lying in crystal rows or planes. Without crystalographic order there can be no channeling, hence a method for measuring disorder, defects, interstitials etc.
