Unfolding Techniques for the DMEK Graft,ating the operation using an artificial anterior chamber (which is how we teach graft unfolding at our wet-lab courses). Beginning surgeons may also be comforted to know that most clinical outcomes during the “l(fā)earning curve” of the operation approximate those obtained by more experienced hands [5–7].

The PDEK Bubble,s layer – which lies between the Descemet’s membrane and the stroma [1]. The last three layers – the PDL, the Descemet’s membrane and the endothelium – together constitute the graft that is transplanted in a pre-Descemet’s endothelial keratoplasty (PDEK) [2]. The PDEK graft is created by injecting air into the donor corneoscleral rim [1, 2].

,Air-Pump-Assisted Pre-Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty,his technique offers over DMEK are the ability to use relatively younger grafts; the more robust nature of the graft which has greater resistance to tear as compared to DMEK as well as the relative ease of surgery thereby gained.

,Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty,raquer proposed a method to selectively replace the diseased endothelium with an anterior approach via a corneal flap. This was not adopted secondary to vascular in growth at the host-donor interface and technique-induced astigmatism [2].
