Recording Marshick layer of atmosphere – 99% of it lies in a layer just 31 km thick. The lower Mars appears in the sky, the more atmosphere its light must travel through to reach the observer’s keen eye, its light diminishing and levels of turbulence generally increasing nearer the horizon.
