Mangroves: A Nutrient Retention Box,system are (i) fertilizer run-off from the adjacent agricultural fields, (ii) aquacultural wastes, which contain nutrients released from unused feed, excreta of the culture species etc. Mangroves retain this huge quantum of nutrients in the system, and help in sustaining the food webs.

Mangroves: A Sink of Heavy Metals,, according to the author the significant assimilating potential of mangroves does not mean that the system should be used as bin of conservative wastes. Implementation of water pollution prevention strategies and restoration of ecological systems coupled with mass awareness are integral components to maintain the health of mangroves.
