Magneto-Optic Investigation of Magnetic Flux Penetration on a Nanosecond Timescaleufficiently short to investigate sub-nanosecond phenomena. Furthermore, we studied the penetration velocity of the dendritic instability in thin YBCO films. We found two regimes: An early stage with a penetration velocity of up to 170 k m/s and a distinct later stage were the velocity is lower (≈ 18 km/s).

Magneto-Optical Imaging of Pattern Formation in the Vortex Landscape. We investigate the relationship between spatial fluctuations of the vortex density map and vortex avalanches. For the experiment, we use a magneto-optical image lock-in amplifier. The optimization of this apparatus, in particular with respect to noise reduction is discussed.
