An archaic fauna (with . and . thought to be contemporary with the tools is now known to be of separate origin and of Late P. date.

D,. A large site in the Loralai Valley in northern Baluchistan, Pakistan, probably occupied from the 5th millenniuum B. In later levels, material of H. type was associated with local artefacts such as figurines of Z. type. The latest occupation of the site is represented by a large Buddhist structure.

G,. A cave with Upper P. occupation close to Mussidan in the Dordogne, southwest France. Levels of M. type were found in the cave. Numerous engravings are believed to be of the same date. They are amongst the finest and most delicate ever found from the Palaeolithic period.

H,.’. The Ha’amonga-a-Maui on Tongatapu Island (. T. is a huge coral trilithon with two notched uprights supporting a lintel. It was erected, according to tradition, by the 11th Tui Tonga (hereditary chief) around 1200. The monument is unique in the Pacific region.
