Binary Image Processing and the Raster to Vector Transformation,sation, entity extraction, two- dimensional scene formation and, possibly, 3D reconstruction (depending upon drawing type). In this and the following two chapters we consider the steps involved in extracting a vector representation from the binary image. This process is known as the raster to vector transformation [46, 82–85].

Current Issues and Future Developments, may be seen as a step towards an even higher-level interpretation. The representation produced at this higher level provides a global view in which locally recognised entities are combined to provide a description of the entire drawing. Our own initial steps in this direction were described in Chapter 11.
