描述.Human civilization has evolved to the point at which we can consider tapping space resources and expanding beyond Earth’s atmosphere. The Introduction surveys possible motivations for large-scale human emigration to space. Since our early ancestors began to move out of Africa, humans have constantly expanded their range. Today, the pattern of human settlement extends from pole to pole. Humans regularly visit the upper troposphere and ocean floor and technology has enabled a few to even reside above the atmosphere in space stations...For the next few millennia at least (barring breakthroughs), the human frontier will include the solar system and the nearest stars. Will it better to settle the Moon, Mars, or a nearby asteroid and what environments can we expect to find in the vicinity of nearby stars are questions that need to be answered if mankind is to migrate into space..

Space Beanstalks,ilometers in the evelator, you too would bes in orbit around the Earth—and paying just the cost of the electricity operating the elevator to get you there. And this would all be as effortless on your part, and as reliable, as the flight of skylark.

Having gone to the Moon in the 1960s with 1940s rocket propulsion technology, one could imagine a 2015 human lunar using solar- and nuclear-thermal rockets, solar-electric- propelled cargo tugs efficiently carrying cargo from low Earth orbit, and piloted vehicles Space Station.

The Old Frontier,l Africa to populate Eurasia and Australia. More recently, perhaps 13,000 years ago, the remote descendents of these early pioneers crossed am Ice Age land bridge between Siberia and Alaska to begin thes human occupation of the New World.

The New Frontier,scopes and space probes have returned photos of the strange environments of other solar-system worlds. Where in neary space might human settlements best be established and how might humans and their descendents live in the these strange new environments?

Thinking Interstellar,xplored, though a mission to do so dubbed, “New Horizons”, is on its way to that distance—distances so vast that they cannot be easily comprehended; distances so large that we have to invent new units of measure in order to even readily discuss them.
