Pretreatment Technologies for Second-Generation Bioethanol Production,ques have been investigated over the years and are classified as physical, chemical, biological, and physicochemical methods. In this sense, this chapter aims to bring an overview of the current knowledge regarding the technologies used to treat lignocellulosic biomass as a feedstock for second-generation bioethanol production.

Feedstocks and Pre-Treatment Techniques for Third-Generation Bioethanol Production,and microalgae. 3G bioethanol has been developed to overcome the limitations associated with 1G and 2G bioethanol. 3G bioethanol is a recent emerging technique that is still in its development phase, while the previous research shows that it is a promising way to cope with several environmental issues related to foregoing generations.

Microalgae and Macroalgae for Third-Generation Bioethanol Production,ydrolysis, fermentation and distillation. To become a competitive source for bioethanol, the production of microalgae should be cheap and highly efficient. Therefore, each of the above processes should be improved and optimised. At the end of this chapter, the future direction on bioethanol production from microalgae and macroalgae is highlighted.

Using fungus . as a host, an expression system has been created that allows one to obtain improved enzyme complexes containing a ?finely tuned? set of enzymes capable of effectively destroying plant polysaccharides under specified technological conditions.
