Liver,from the blood as an energy source by oxidizing them completely to carbon dioxide and water, the liver has the unique capacity to convert these fatty acids into ketone bodies. It thus supplies the extrahepatic tissues with a major energy source, especially under conditions of limited availability of glucose.

Plasma Lipoproteins: Structure and Metabolism,in a semidispersed state in order to preserve the patency of the capillary system. Unesterified (free) fatty acids (FFA) are bound to albumin whereas the remainder of the lipids of plasma are transported in one or more classes of complex macromolecules (lipoproteins) that contain specialized proteins (apolipoproteins).
