This collection of essays intends to offer views and perspectives from outside the United States on various aspects and issues of American law. The contributors are all members, in one form or another, of Innsbruck University in Austria, being of Austrian nationality. They include faculty of the Law School and of the American Studies Department as well as Ph. D. students at the latter Department. Since the focus is on American law, it may at first not seem surprising that not only legal scholars but also ‘Americanists’ are represented in this volume. And yet, this particular combination of contributors requires explanation. Over the past two decades a number of research fields explicitly designed and defined as inter- or transdisciplinary have been established at various American universities.
