Who or what is at stake?re as an umbrella term. The professional contributing an issue is referred to as the issue holder — the professional who will hold the issue for that session. The issue holder can be viewed as a client with respect to the rest of the group, including consultants and a facilitator.

Preconditions: fostering peer supervision and action learningonditions with group members, not only during the formation of a consultation group, but also regularly and explicitly during its lifetime. I have come to believe that, together, these six preconditions help to ‘foster’ the learning of the group and its participants.

Encouraging developmentinfluences outside and inside the group, such as organisational politics or emerging dominant personalities, which may inhibit concentration on work and development. Facilitators of consultation groups should develop their sensitivity to threatening and encouraging aspects of work and development in groups.
