,How do I Structure a Therapeutic Story?—Building Stairs,ttempts at solutions, (4.) his failure, (5.) a helpful new resource, and (6.) the success. Stages 3 and 4 can be omitted, but this results in a loss of tension and the appreciation of the severity of the challenge. A story with a negative or open ending can end after stage 4 or 5.

,What Makes a Good Story?—Room for One’s Own,ries, on the other hand, offer only a limited range of interpretation and are often unfavorable for therapy. Particularly, example stories should not be too similar to the client’s life story. This avoids false promises as well as resistance from clients who do not feel recognized when hearing about the successes or failures of other people.
