The Antares Facility for Inertial Fusion Experiments — Status and Planssibility of CO. as an inertial fusion driver. The advantage of CO., a gas laser with high rep-rate capability, electrical efficiency as high as 10%, and scalability to large energies, must outweigh important difficulties in target physics due to the copious production of suprathermal electrons if CO. is to be considered a viable driver option.

Multistep Pumping Schemes for Short-Wave Lasersesearch in many institutions. At Los Alamos, studies of the feasibility of gamma-ray lasers have been under way for several, years, and a new approach to making an X-ray laser has been recently conceived. We are seeking ways to reduce the pumping power requirements.
