Scattering of Laser Radiationssible studies of non-linear scattering effects which could not have been undertaken readily, if at all, with conventional sources. In the present paper, an attempt will be made to survey some recent scattering experiments and theory. No attempt at completeness is made.

Shock Wave Process and Numerical Calculationsoncluded that a non-transparent layer is formed on the surface of the solid in the very early stages of the irradiation process. Most of the laser energy is absorbed in this layer, and a hot plasma is formed and expands with high velocities. The reaction forces produce a shock wave in the solid.
