Higher Layer Aspects and RAN4 Performance Aspects,In this chapter, we discuss higher layer aspects such as relay architecture, C-plane, U-plane procedures and S1/X2 procedures. Also discussed are RAN4 performance requirements for RF and baseband of both relay backhaul link and access link.

Implementation Aspects of Release 10 Relay,Chapter 6 discusses several implementation aspects of LTE-A relay, covering the baseband processing, RF components and resource scheduler of relay node, necessary development at donor eNB to support R-PDCCH transmission and relay backhaul resource scheduling, and relay network planning.

Physical Layer Standardization of Release 10 Relay, standardization aspects include relay frame timing, R-PDCCH multiplexing, reference signal, R-PDCCH channel details. For backhaul subframe allocation, the main issue is HARQ timing to fit design constraints such as MBSFN subframe configuration, Release 8 compatibility, etc.
