描述.Kantianism, Postmodernism and Critical Legal Thought.presents a challenging alternative theory of legal philosophy. Thecentral thesis of the book suggests an accommodation between three ofthe most influential contemporary theories of law, Kantianism,postmodernism and critical legal thought. In doing so, it furthersuggests that the often perceived distance between these theories oflaw disguises a common intellectual foundation. This foundation liesin the work of Immanuel Kant. ..Kantianism, Postmodernism and Critical Legal Thought. presents anintellectual history of critical legal thinking, beginning with Kant,and then proceeding through philosphers and legal theorists as diverseas Heidegger and Arendt, Foucault and Derrida, Rorty and Rawls, andUnger and Dworkin. Ultimately, it will be suggested that each of thesephilosophers is writing within a common intellectual tradition, andthat by concentrating on the commonality of this tradition,contemporary legal theory can better appreciate the reconstructivepotential of the critical legal project.

Immanuel Kant and the Foundations of Critique,active ‘lived’ theology, and Kant’s subsequent religious writings were to reveal a deep distrust of dogmatic theology. The impulse towards moral virtue came from within, and this was to become the central assertion of Kant’s theory of duty and obligation, around which he built his critique of practical reason.
