Development of Exxchange, A Continuous Ion Exchange Process Using Powdered Resins and Cross-Flow Fils described. This equipment, developed in the laboratory, has also been experimentally evaluated at pilot scale to remove nitrate ions from potable water and the results of these experiments on extraction and regeneration cycles are presented.

Alternative Routes to Chloromethylation for Preparation of Anion Exchangerssins were prepared based on the chemistry of polyamine epoxy, acrylic epoxy and phenolic epoxy with epichlorohydrin. Samples of strong, weak and mixed basicity with varying characteristics were made for water treatment applications. Pilot plant samples show promising results in laboratory operating data and performance in field trials.

Multi-Component Mixed-Bed Ion Exchange Modeling in Aminated Watersase reaction to determine mixed-bed effluent-concentration profiles. The cationic resin is initially in the hydrogen form. As exchange progresses, the hydrogen cycle is replaced by the amine cycle which produces a characteristic of amine form operation, sodium throw. The model predicts the transient sodium outlet concentration surge.

Municipal Drinking Water Treatment by the CARIX Ion Exchange Processns. The performance of two plants demonstrates that a considerable improvement of water quality is easily achieved. CARIX has proved to be a reliable process which allows a non-polluting partial demineralization of drinking water. Results and costs are discussed in detail.
