描述Material processing techniques that employ severe plasticdeformation have evolved over the past decade, producing metals,alloys and composites having extraordinary properties. Variants of SPDmethods are now capable of creating monolithic materials withsubmicron and nanocrystalline grain sizes. The resulting novelproperties of these materials has led to a growing scientific andcommercial interest in them. They offer the promise of bulknanocrystalline materials for structural; applications, includingnanocomposites of lightweight alloys with unprecedented strength.These materials may also enable the use of alternative metal shapingprocesses, such as high strain rate superplastic forming. Prospectiveapplications for medical, automotive, aerospace and other industriesare already under development.

Structural Changes Induced By Severe Plastic Deformation Of Fe- and Co-Based Amorphous Alloyscroscopic study of the structure of deformed strips revealed the presence of crystalline precipitates 2 to 50 nm in size having a relatively equiaxed shape in the amorphous matrix of the Fe-based alloys and a nearly plate shape in the Co-based alloys. The phases were identified from electron microdiffraction patterns of the alloys.

Crystal Lattice Distorsions in Ultrafine-Grained Metals Produced by Severe Plastic Deformation lattice) have been detected as well. This paper deals with revealing via comparative electron microscopy the above structural states in distinct UFG materials (copper, nickel, and the complexly doped intermetallic compound Ni–18at.% Al–8at.% Cr–1at.% Zr–0.15at.% B) produced by various methods of severe plastic deformation (SPD).
